The annual flooding that occurs in Texas and Louisiana is often exacerbated by active hurricanes, fueled by higher ocean temperatures. From Hurricane Harvey to other major storms, thousands of homes and thousands of acres of farmland have been impacted. As a result, insurance issues and relocation of residents have become challenges for local governments. Not only on land, but climate change also threatens small islands, as seen in the Pacific. Countries such as the Maldives and Tuvalu are facing rising sea levels that could submerge their territories. As sea levels rise, the potential for flooding from tropical cyclones also increases, forcing residents to relocate and adapt to increasingly difficult conditions. The importance of mitigating and adapting to climate change is urgent to overcome this resurgence of flooding. Governments and community organizations around the world are slowly realizing the need for sustainable solutions, such as better water resource management, resilient infrastructure, and increasing community awareness about flood risks and mitigation actions that can be taken.
